Description
Delicious homemade bread rolls, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornmeal (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, until foamy.
- Add olive oil, salt, and 3 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then gradually add the remaining flour as needed.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a 6-inch-long roll and place on a baking sheet dusted with cornmeal.
- Cover the rolls and allow them to rise for 20-25 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with egg wash if desired.
- Bake for 16-18 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- These rolls are best served warm.
- You can add herbs or spices to the dough for extra flavor.
