Description

Enjoy your sweet and crunchy S’mores Chocolate Caramel Apples!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 package of caramels (about 14 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening
  • 4 large marshmallows
  • 4 graham crackers, crushed
  • 4 wooden sticks
  • Chocolate bars, broken into pieces for topping
  • Optional: additional graham crackers for serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the Apples: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each one.
  2. Melt the Caramel: In a saucepan, melt the caramels with 2 tablespoons of water over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  3. Dip the Apples: Dip each apple into the melted caramel, letting the excess drip off. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow to set in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
  4. Prepare the Chocolate Coating: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  5. Coat with Chocolate: Dip the caramel-coated apples into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off. Return to the lined baking sheet.
  6. Garnish: While the chocolate is still wet, press a marshmallow onto the top of each apple. Sprinkle crushed graham crackers over the chocolate. Press a piece of chocolate bar onto the top of each apple.
  7. Set the Apples: Place the apples back in the refrigerator until the chocolate is completely set, about 20 minutes.

Notes

  • Apple Type: Choose firm apples to prevent them from getting soggy after dipping.
  • Alternative Toppings: Experiment with different toppings like nuts or additional candy pieces for variety.
  • Caramel Care: Ensure the caramel is smooth and not too thick to avoid uneven coating.
  • Storage: Store in the refrigerator if not consuming immediately to maintain freshness and ensure the coatings remain set.
