Description
A delicious Southern Banana Cobbler that’s rich, sweet, and perfect for dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish, making sure it coats the bottom evenly. My grandmother always said the butter is what gives the cobbler its rich, golden edges.
- Arrange the bananas: Layer the sliced bananas evenly over the melted butter. As they bake, they’ll soften and caramelize, creating that sweet, almost custard-like filling.
- Mix the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. The batter will be thin, and that’s exactly how it should be.
- Pour and bake: Carefully pour the batter over the bananas. Do not stir. This is the magic of Southern Banana Cobbler—the batter will rise and form a tender crust as it bakes.
- Bake until golden: Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and set. The edges should be bubbling, and your kitchen will smell like sweet banana bread and warm vanilla. Let it cool slightly before serving. It thickens as it rests, making it easier to scoop.
Notes
- This cobbler pairs wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before serving for best results.
