Description

Delicious Strawberry Shortcake Puppy Chow that’s perfect for a sweet snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups rice cereal squares
  • 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 (3 oz) box strawberry gelatin mix
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare your cereal: Pour the rice cereal squares into a large mixing bowl. Make sure you use a bowl big enough to gently fold everything together without crushing the cereal.
  2. Melt the white chocolate mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract. The mixture should be glossy and creamy.
  3. Add the strawberry flavor: Whisk the strawberry gelatin mix into the melted chocolate mixture until fully dissolved. The color will turn into a soft, pretty pink. That is when you know the strawberry flavor is ready to shine.
  4. Coat the cereal: Pour the strawberry white chocolate mixture over the cereal. Gently fold with a spatula until all pieces are evenly coated. Work slowly to keep the cereal intact.
  5. Shake with powdered sugar: Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake until every piece is fully covered. This step is always my favorite—it feels like turning ordinary cereal into a sweet dessert treasure.
  6. Cool and set: Spread the coated cereal onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let it cool completely so the coating firms up. Once set, break apart any large clusters.

Notes

  • The first time I made this, I rushed the melting process and overheated the chocolate. Slow and steady is the key here. Stir gently and patiently.
