Ingredients

- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 4 cups water + 2 tbsp baking soda (for boiling)
- Coarse salt for topping
Instructions
- Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit 5 minutes. Stir in flour, salt, and knead until smooth. Let rise 1 hour.
- In a skillet, cook ground beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper until browned. Let cool slightly and mix with cheddar cheese.
- Punch down dough and divide into 8 portions. Flatten each, fill with beef-cheese mixture, and pinch closed.
- Bring 4 cups water + baking soda to a boil. Drop each bun for 20 seconds, then remove.
- Place buns on a baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake at 375°F for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with gooey cheese inside.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- Feel free to add other spices to the beef mixture for extra flavor.
- These buns are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
