Description

Soft golden buns stuffed with savory beef and melty cheese for the ultimate handheld snack.


Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 4 cups water + 2 tbsp baking soda (for boiling)
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit 5 minutes. Stir in flour, salt, and knead until smooth. Let rise 1 hour.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef with garlic powder, salt, and pepper until browned. Let cool slightly and mix with cheddar cheese.
  3. Punch down dough and divide into 8 portions. Flatten each, fill with beef-cheese mixture, and pinch closed.
  4. Bring 4 cups water + baking soda to a boil. Drop each bun for 20 seconds, then remove.
  5. Place buns on a baking sheet, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  6. Bake at 375°F for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with gooey cheese inside.

  • Ensure the water is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • Feel free to add other spices to the beef mixture for extra flavor.
  • These buns are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
