Description

A hearty, layered lasagna with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and bubbling melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • Ground beef (1 lb)
  • Lasagna noodles (12 sheets)
  • Ricotta cheese (15 oz)
  • Mozzarella cheese (3 cups, shredded)
  • Parmesan cheese (½ cup, grated)
  • Marinara or tomato sauce (4 cups)
  • Onion (1, diced)
  • Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
  • Egg (1, for ricotta mixture)
  • Olive oil (2 Tbsp)
  • Italian herbs (oregano, basil, parsley)
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, then add ground beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, and herbs. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, Parmesan, and a pinch of parsley.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce and mozzarella on top.
  5. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake another 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with sautéed vegetables or lentils.
  • Letting the lasagna rest before slicing helps it hold its shape.
