Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red buttercream (for horns and topping)
  • Cream cheese frosting (for swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and stir until just blended.
  5. Fill the liners 2/3 full and bake for 18–20 minutes, then cool completely.
  6. Pipe a swirl of cream cheese frosting on each cupcake, then top with red buttercream in the center.
  7. Shape small red fondant or buttercream horns and place them on top for a devilish finish.
