Description

A rich and delicious chocolate cake infused with Kahlua, topped with a fluffy marshmallow filling and hot cocoa whipped topping. Perfect for Christmas celebrations!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15 oz) chocolate fudge cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup Kahlua
  • 1 container (16 oz) marshmallow fluff
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon espresso powder
  • 2 packets hot chocolate mix
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Warm hot fudge
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the cake batter according to the box instructions, replacing the water with 1 cup of water and ½ cup of Kahlua.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 baking dish and bake for 30–35 minutes, or follow the time on the box.
  4. In the last 5 minutes of bake time, combine the marshmallow fluff and ¼ cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until pourable.
  5. When the cake comes out of the oven, poke holes all over the surface using the handle of a wooden spoon, poking about ¾ of the way down.
  6. Pour the warm marshmallow mixture over the cake, aiming for the holes to allow it to soak in.
  7. Refrigerate the cake for 1 hour to cool completely.
  8. In a large bowl, add the heavy cream, espresso powder, vanilla, and hot chocolate mix, and blend with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  9. Spread the whipped topping evenly over the chilled cake.
  10. Warm the hot fudge and drizzle or swirl it across the top.
  11. Add maraschino cherries as garnish.

Notes

  • Ensure to poke the holes gently to avoid breaking the cake.
  • You can substitute Kahlua with any chocolate or coffee-flavored liqueur for a similar effect.
  • Let the cake sit after frosting for a bit to allow the flavors to meld before serving.
